The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card is an excellent option for all Aeroplan collectors to pick up a hefty chunk of points with a relatively low minimum spending requirement.

Bonuses & Fees

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card is offering an enhanced welcome bonus of up to 50,000 Aeroplan points. Apply through our link to take advantage of this offer.

The enhanced offer is distributed as follows:

  • 10,000 Aeroplan points upon first purchase†
  • 15,000 Aeroplan points upon spending $7,500 in the first 180 days of account opening†
  • 25,000 Aeroplan points as a one-time anniversary bonus upon spending $12,000 within 12 months of account opening†

The annual fee of $139 is rebated in the first year under the current promotion.† By having TD’s All-Inclusive Banking Plan, you’ll be able the waive the annual fee on this card in subsequent years, too.†

Supplementary cards can be added to your account at an annual cost of $75 per card.†

To receive the first-year annual fee rebate, you must activate your card and make your first purchase on the account within the first three months after account opening and you must add your additional cardholders by January 6, 2025.†

Earning Rewards

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card offers 1.5 Aeroplan points† per dollar spent on eligible gas, grocery, and Air Canada® purchases, including Air Canada Vacations®. Meanwhile, you’ll earn 1 Aeroplan point† per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases.†

The earning rates on this card are good, but not extraordinary. It offers a decent return on important categories such as gas and groceries, while also coming with a few Air Canada® benefits that make it a good staple card to hold.

Redeeming Rewards

Aeroplan remains the program of choice for the vast majority of Canadians aiming to redeem their points for high-value international business class and First Class redemptions.

Redeeming Aeroplan points follows the Aeroplan Flight Reward Chart, and can cost as little as 55,000 points one-way from Vancouver to Tokyo in business class, for example.

From the East Coast, 60,000 Aeroplan points (or often fewer, thanks to Air Canada’s® preferred pricing benefit if you hold Aeroplan Elite Status or a co-branded credit card) would unlock a transatlantic flight to most parts of Western Europe.

Closer to home, short-haul flights within North America that are under 500 miles only cost as few as 6,000 Aeroplan points one-way.

Perks & Benefits

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card prides itself upon a strong set of Air Canada® travel benefits. As a cardholder, you’ll receive:

  • Free first checked bag on Air Canada® flights, for the primary and supplementary cardholders†
  • Preferred pricing when redeeming Aeroplan points for Air Canada flights†
  • The ability to earn 1,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) and 1 Status Qualifying Segment (SQS) for every $10,000 you spend on the card†
  • Your Aeroplan points won’t expire for as long as you’re a cardholder†

On top of that, a unique perk on this card comes in the form of a $100 (CAD) NEXUS credit†, which is not offered by either CIBC and American Express at this tier. A NEXUS card will make your journey across the US border much smoother.

Insurance Coverage

As a premium travel credit card, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card comes with an impressive suite of insurance benefits, including:

  • Travel medical insurance of up to $2,000,000 on the first 21 days of a trip (4 days for cardholders aged 65 and up).†
  • Trip cancellation/trip interruption: For trip cancellation, up to $1,500 per person and $5,000 total, which protects against unforeseen factors affecting your trip and for Trip Interruption, up to $5,000 per person and $25,000 total.†
  • Delayed and lost baggage insurance of up to $1,000 per person towards the purchase of essential items if your baggage is delayed by more than six hours or lost.†
  • Flight delay insurance of up to $500 if your flight is delayed by more than four hours.†
  • $500,000 Common Carrier Accident insurance, which protects you in case of a travel-related accident.†
  • Auto rental collision loss damage insurance, which can help you save on the insurance fees that car rental companies would otherwise charge for vehicles up to $65,000 MSRP.†

One outstanding feature of the card is that the insurance applies to Aeroplan award tickets when you charge the full taxes and fees of the redemption ticket on your TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card.

This perk alone means that the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card is an excellent card to keep around for the long-term, because the insurance coverage will come in very handy if you travel frequently on Aeroplan awards.

Thank you so much for the amazing info! With the welcome bonus, when I spend the first $1,500 in the first 3 months, does the next $7,500 spend requirement for the remaining 20,000 points include the first 3 month spend requirement? Or is it on top? (ie $1,500 + $7,500=$9,000 requirement or just a flat $7,500). Don’t want to overspend for the welcome bonus if I can move onto my next required minimum after a few months 🙂 Thanks!

For the free checked bag, what happens if I book a trip where the first segment is on AC, but the 2nd leg is on a different *A carrier like Lufthansa?

What about when I book an outbound on AC, but the return is on a *A codeshare such as United?

    Thanks

    Hello,
Can you confirm the process on adding the free checked bag during check-in? I called TD Visa and they told me the fee would be waived when I checked in online (via app or website). I called Air Canada and they told me the fee would need to be waived in person at a counter and cannot be done online. Which is the correct process? Would I be able to check in online with no bags and then go to the counter and add checked bags and get it waived if this needs to be done in person?

    1. Nick

I had this exact same question myself before. When doing the online check-in for my flight I saw that the option to add 1 bag showed a $0.00 cost so I didn’t need to bother with checking in at the airport counter. I had to make sure my Aeroplan profile had the TD Visa linked beforehand though.

  4. John

Does the supplementary card holder get a free checked bag if they are flying alone? Or is it only when flying with the primary card holder?

    1. Giovanna

Is the buddy pass only available with $25k in spending or just with the minimum spend to earn bonus points?

        1. Ryan Solomon

There is only the bonus Buddy pass with this card and no annual companion pass, correct?

  5. Marie

I see that Nexus pass applications are $50. Since this CC has a NEXUS $100 credit, would I be able to apply for let’s say Global Entry and pay the remainder out of pocket? If I am able to, is it worth doing that? Or is the credit only limited to NEXUS applications only?

  6. Shri

I widely use the AmEx Platinum and have been toying with the TD Visa Infinite vs AmEx Cobalt. Does the fact that I already have AmEx disqualify me from the Cobalt Welcome bonus? If yes, then TD is a better option.

  7. Karen Gold

Does the insurance on this card cover cancellations for COVID reasons? I’m guessing it does not with the government advisory in place. Any advice on insurance that will?

  8. Chris

I’m a bit surprised that for the first time in many years my application was rejected. My credit score is over 800. I haven’t had a TD credit card in over a year. I’m a TD client for other banking services. You had mentioned that they were being stricter lately – any specific idea on what could have driven the rejection? New criteria like “x number of card application in the past y months?”

  9. Midnight Snacks

For those who have this card, how long did it take before you started seeing points on your Aeroplan account? My start date was Aug 1, I’ve already got a statement on Aug 18 that shows points, but on Aeroplan it shows 0pts. I confirmed it is the same Aeroplan number on the statement and website.

Also, do you get the buddy pass after 90 days from sign up, or when you hit your minimum spend? I’m really hoping to convert that buddy pass before Nov 30 deadline.

    1. Norman

In the Terms and Conditions, it states “account should be in good standing for 90 days and allow up to 8 weeks” to get the Buddy Pass.

CIBC is easier as it states “after 3 calendar days” – of course, after spending the minimum $1000 within 4 months. Hope this helps.

  10. Behfar

How does the new SUB (after Aug 16th) compare to the previous one for this card? better or worse? wondering if I should sign up now, or wait for a better deal.

  11. Rich

Wow, just applied and for the first time since my student days my application was rejected. I wonder why. I did previously hold a TD Aeroplan card which I cancelled just over a year ago and before the changes to the Aeroplan program and cards. Assume it’s related to my previous card? Hmmm.

    1. Ricky YVR

TD has been fairly strict on approvals recently, so it may not be due to that. I’d recommend calling in after you receive the letter to see if you can request a review of the application, that’s been successful for me in the past.

      1. Rich

I’ll give that a try, thanks Ricky for all that you do.

  12. Laurence

In regards to the buddy pass: if you decide to keep it, does it expire after a while? Or is it renewed every year? If there is no expiry date, is it possible to convert it to aeroplan points at a later date if you get the card before Aug 16 2021?
(Debating on keeping the buddy pass as there is a possibility to go to Mexico in Dec. 2021 for family matters, but I otherwise usually travel solo).

  13. Alvi

Free bag option is just for counter check-in or I can do online check-in as well? Will online check-in let me add free bags?

    1. Ricky YVR

Online check-in will let you add free bags. Then you just go drop them off.

  14. C

If you redeem a flight with aeroplan reward points and use the TD credit card to pay the fees would you still get free checked in baggage or you would have to redeem a flight with free check in baggage for a higher rewards cost?

    1. Ricky YVR

You’d still get the free checked bag just for being a cardholder. In fact, you don’t even need to use the card to pay for the fees, as the benefit is linked to your Aeroplan account.

      1. C

Thanks Rick. Do you also know if I book a flight with the first baggage free. Does that mean I get to check 2bags when I combine it with my credit card benefit?

  15. Smit

Will I get free bags even if I am booking my Air Canada tickets with another credit card? Or If I have already booked tickets and apply for this card after that?

    1. Ricky YVR

Yes, as the free checked bags benefit is tied to your Aeroplan account, not the credit card you paid with.

      1. Smit

Thank you very much for your quick response.

  16. Lisa

If I currently have a Scotia Visa passport Infinite card where I received the promo at that time, would I still be able to get the promo points here? I recall seeing that we might not be eligible because it’s in the same card family (even though from different bank) thanks.

  17. Gregor

A little update on TD policy. I switched to TD Aeroplan VI from TD travel Platinum in Oct 2020, got first transaction bonus after 3 months, and been waiting for the spending bonus. Called twice, first talked with agent- “wait till next statement”. After a month, agent, then manager, informed me that I am not eligible, because I previously have had the card, and I have also received bonus on my TD platinum travel card before I have switched it to current Aeroplan VI. Also I won’t be eligible for future welcome bonus because I already had it in the past and this is for new customers otherwise, quote “everyone could be switching back and forth and get the bonus…”:/ Seems like TD will be much harder to churn now:) Anyone else experienced that?

    1. Steve

I can confirm this also, called an told the same. You will get 10,000 points on meeting the minimum spend but that’s it.

  18. Judith

If I charged the whole reward ticket using my Aeroplan points would I still be getting the travel insurances & benefits (since I didn’t use/charge any amount with my TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card)?

    1. Ricky YVR

Yes, bookings made entirely with Aeroplan points (but not any other loyalty program) are also covered by this card’s insurance policy.

  19. Richard

    application declined. 789 transunion score

    1. Richard

think I might have a better chance with the Aeroplan Visa Platinum? or a CIBC Aeroplan one?

      1. Dylan

I had the exact same issue. Did you end up reapplying for this card Richard?

      2. Josh YVR

Probably a glitch. You’ll have a better chance calling or going to a branch.

  20. Dan

Thanks for the review Ricky! And for the buddy pass conversion tip! You’ve materially impacted my plans for 2022.
I know it’s impossible to tell for sure but traditionally are the best sign-up offers made in Q4 and Q1? I’m debating whether I should wait to apply for this card now or after May 2021 (to see if a better offer comes up)

    1. Josh YVR

Off the top of my head, TD’s best offers are usually announced in March and September, but it’s always variable. It’s better to develop a sense of historic offers, so you know how each one stacks up and whether you think it’s worth applying. It’s also tough to predict if the new Aeroplan program will impact these patterns.

That said, if you plan on converting the Buddy Pass into points, the current offers are unprecedentedly high!

  21. Peter

I want to know if I have to wait 12 months after opening or closing the account to reapply for the card again and be eligible for the sign up bonus.

  22. Peter

I opened an TD aeroplan visa infinite Jan 2020 and closed it before the one year anniversary renewal date on Jan 2021 of this year. I also want to to know if I am eligible for the signup bonus if I reapply again. Do I wait 12 months after opening or closing the account?

  23. Grantie

Is the minimum spending just $1000 during the first three months OR do I need to spend $1000 minimum each
month for the each of the first 4 months. The CIBC site states”Then, get 10,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 or more during the first 4 monthly statement periods.”

    1. Ricky YVR

Just $1,000 during the first three months (for the TD card). CIBC’s wording is slightly vague, although it’s still just $1,000 during the first four months, not $1,000 every month.

  24. Mike MON

I was wondering if the 100 $ Nexus credit is offered after using either one of both USA and Canada border agencies or only with the Canadian agency.

  25. David

how do I know I have “Preferred pricing” when I am redeeming Aeroplan reward point when booking a trip?

    1. Ricky YVR

Compare the pricing you see against the pricing that’s displayed when you aren’t logged in. If it’s lower, then you have preferred pricing.

  26. Jo Layh YVR

I just received the new TD Aeroplan Platinum Visa by product switching from the no fee Green card. Can I still apply for the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite when there’s a better offer if it has been over a year since I last applied for it and 9 months + since I product switched it to the Green no fee card?

  27. Yoon

In the terms and conditions ” If you have opened an Account in the last 12 months, you will not be eligible for this offer. ”
Think it is new (It has been 6 months, as far as I remember) and does not specify the ‘account’.
My last Aeroplan Infinite Visa has been openend Aug 2019 and closed in Dec 2019 so it has been opened longer than a year ago.
However, I had a TD Travel Reward Ininite Visa (Jun 2020-Sep 2020) lately.
Do you think I am eligible for this welcome offer?

    1. Ricky YVR

Yes, it’s new – it used to be 6 months.

I think you’re eligible as it’s been more than 12 months since you opened the card. The TD Travel Rewards card shouldn’t factor into it.

  28. Jeff

how long do I need to wait before re-applying for this credit card to get the bonus? I’ve had my existing card for 1+ year and cancelled it today.

    1. Steve

      I believe 6 months
