Last week bore witness to some of the most exciting news we’ve had in the Canadian Miles & Points landscape for a long time: the addition of Etihad Airways as the newest Aeroplan partner, with the full ability to redeem Aeroplan miles for Etihad First Class and, in particular, the Etihad A380 First Class Apartments.
Let’s look at why this is such a groundbreaking development for anyone who holds Aeroplan miles, some of the best redemption sweet spots available (including how you can fly more First Class while spending fewer Aeroplan miles!) and the recommended way to search for availability and make your bookings.
We’ll also discuss a few of the maximum permitted mileage (MPM) issues that have affected Aeroplan in recent weeks, which will hopefully be resolved sooner rather than later, as well as why I believe we currently find ourselves in the “golden age” for Aeroplan miles.
As always, earn and burn – and the Etihad Apartments are certainly a fantastic way to burn!

The excitement from Aeroplan enthusiasts to fly Etihad’s First Class Apartments and Residence on the A380 will have to wait until 2021 since it appears that all reservations before then have been or will soon be cancelled.

2021 gang represent!
God, do I share your enthusiasm! I had booked Business class award to Denpasar with A√©roplan (77,500 k) plus a flight to Sydney with Avios for August but had to cancel. I also transferred my Platinum points to A√©roplan during the promotion. And then…Tadam!! The stars aligned and I was able to book the First Class Apartment üôÉ
Thanks Ricky!
Thank You Ricky! Would you know how much is total tax for a one way redemption?
If you just want to taste the First Class apartment, you may position yourself either in Paris or London and fly to Abu Dhabi will only cost you 60000 miles.
I paid $150 in taxes plus the $30 phone booking fee for SYD-AUH-NYC-YYZ.
AUH-LHR/CDG for 60,000 miles is a great redemption too. But I must say that SYD-AUH-JFK for 110,000 miles is simply extraordinary.
I agree. Between now and the end of September, I believe that there is the best opportunity for the miles and points Aeroplan group.
Even other loyalty plans will be great during this time.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ricky this excited.
No kidding. Sure it required a little bit of work to redeem for The Apartments before, which was definitely part of the enjoyment when finally making the redemption. Making it this accessible has lost some of its allure.
You know, I can empathize with this as someone who recently flew the Apartments on hard-earned AA miles.
But hey, just imagine the excitement of everyone who’ll be doing the Apartments for the first time thanks to Aeroplan. A good time all around.
