St. John’s International Airport is Canada’s most easterly international airport. It connects the city of St. John’s, Newfoundland, to destinations across Canada, the US, the UK, and a handful of sun destinations to the south.
Location and Transportation
St. John’s International Airport is located at 100 World Parkway in St. John’s, Newfoundland, just over 10 minutes north of the city’s downtown area.
In terms of public transportation, the airport is serviced by bus route 14, linking the airport with central St. John’s and terminating at Memorial University.
The bus runs from 6:50am to10:20pm on weekdays, 7:50am to 4:50pm on Saturday, and 9:50am to 4:50pm on Sundays. Fares are $2.50 for adults/seniors, $2.00 for children aged 12–17, and children under 12 ride for free.
Taxis servicing St. John’s International Airport have set rates for a number of hotel destinations in the area. For taxi service to all other locations, you’ll be charged the meter rate plus a $5 surcharge.
The taxi service is offered by an exclusive provider, City Wide Taxi, which charges a premium rate for service from the airport. This slightly elevated rate is charged because the company keeps car waiting at the Arrivals gate, allowing you to quickly make your way to your destination.
Notably, ride-sharing apps such as Uber and Lyft are not currently operating in the St. John’s area.
Car rentals are available on the ground floor of the main terminal, and the drive from the airport to downtown takes 15–20 minutes depending on traffic.

Interestingly, St. John’s International Airport is also an official partner with Turo, the popular car-sharing platform. Through this partnership, Turo hosts can leave their car in short-term or long-term parking, and guests can pick them up from there.
St. John’s International Airport also has a dedicated cell phone waiting area with free Wi-Fi, designed for those waiting on arriving passengers.
Terminals
There’s only one terminal at St. John’s International Airport: the Main Terminal.
The Main Terminal is composed of three levels:
- Level 1 is home to the arrivals hall, check-in counters, domestic and international baggage carousels, and security.
- Level 2 is solely a departure hall, with gates 1–12A.
- Level 3 is where you’ll find a small chapel/quiet room and the majority of the St. John’s Airport Authority offices.

There are currently eight airlines flying in to and out of St. John’s International Airport.
From St. John’s, you can take direct flights to cities across Canada, as well as Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), London (LGW), and a handful of sun destinations to the south.
If you’re looking for something unique, you can also fly via Air Saint-Pierre from St. John’s to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, a French territory off the western coast of Newfoundland..

Lounges
Airport departure lounges are a great option if you find yourself with extra time before boarding your flight.
Many lounges offer comfortable seating, complimentary snacks and refreshments, and Wi-Fi. Depending on the lounge, the amenities may be fairly simple or they may be quite luxurious.
St. John’s International Airport is home to one lounge.
Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge
The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge in the departures area is located right after you clear security, on the second floor between gates 10 and 12A. The lounge’s operating hours are daily from 4am to 6:15pm (though these hours are always subject to change).
Priority Services
The St. John’s International Airport offers priority services for premium ticket holders, elite status members, or those with eligible credit cards. These services typically include:

International Transfers
For those passing through St. John’s International Airport from the US or another country, you’ll need to go through passport control upon arrival.

US Pre-Clearance
St. John’s International Airport isn’t host to a US pre-clearance facility, so you’ll have to go through the custom formalities when you arrive at your first port of entry in the US.
