After launching the ability to earn Aeroplan points on Uber Eats orders in 2020, Aeroplan and Uber Canada are now taking their partnership to the next level in 2021.
As of today, Aeroplan members who hold a co-branded credit card will be able to sign up for a free Uber Pass membership for a three-, six-, or 12-month period, depending on their card tier – with a full linked loyalty partnership coming later this year.
What Is Uber Pass?
Uber Pass is Uber’s membership program, which provides extra benefits to Uber’s most frequent riders and eaters. Benefits of Uber Pass include:
- Unlimited $0 delivery fees on Uber Eats orders of at least $15 and Cornershop grocery orders of at least $40
- 5% off Uber Eats orders of at least $15
- Rides Perks: Rotating monthly discounts and benefits when requesting rides with Uber
Here in Canada, Uber Pass is typically priced at $9.99/month, although Aeroplan credit card holders can now activate a one-time free Uber Pass membership with varying durations depending on their card tier.

Your card tier will determine how many months of a free Uber Pass membership you’ll get to enjoy.
The entry-level Aeroplan credit cards will get three months of free Uber Pass membership:
The core and small business Aeroplan credit cards will get six months of free Uber Pass membership:
- TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card
- TD Aeroplan Visa Business Card
- CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card
- CIBC Aeroplan Visa Business Card
- American Express Aeroplan Card
The premium Aeroplan credit cards will get 12 months of free Uber Pass membership:
- TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card
- CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card
- American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card
- American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card
Activate Your Free Uber Pass Membership
To activate your free Uber Pass membership, you’ll need to follow these steps:
- Open your Uber or Uber Eats app (make sure you have the latest version downloaded).
- Add your Aeroplan co-branded credit card to your account.
- The offer will automatically pop up within 48 hours once your card is linked, and you’ll be able to activate your free Uber Pass membership.
If you already have an Aeroplan co-branded credit card linked to your Uber or Uber Eats account, you’ll also automatically be presented with the screen to activate a free Uber Eats membership within the next 48 hours.
And if you’re already an Uber Pass member, then you can still take advantage of the free membership offer that corresponds to your Aeroplan credit card tier – you simply won’t be billed for the next three, six, or 12 months depending on which card you hold.
After your free membership period ends, you’ll automatically be billed at the default Uber Pass pricing of $9.99/month, unless you cancel before that.
If you intend to cancel, make sure to set an alert to do so prior to the billing date following your three-, six-, or 12-month free period.
Registration Window
This is a one-time offer from Aeroplan and Uber Canada with a registration window of one year’s time.
Regardless of which credit card you hold, you must activate your free Uber Pass membership by September 8, 2022 in order to take advantage of this offer.
Meanwhile, the start date of the offer varies depending on the issuer of your card:
- The free Uber Pass membership on TD and CIBC’s Aeroplan credit cards launch as of today, September 8, 2021.
- The free Uber Pass membership on American Express’s Aeroplan credit cards will launch on November 1, 2021.
(To make up for the two-month period in which American Express cardholders cannot get in on the free Uber Pass action while TD and CIBC cardholders can, American Express will soon be putting out new Amex Offers for a monthly $10 statement credit on a $10 Uber Eats purchase for both September and October 2021.)
As long as the activation is completed by September 8, 2022, the three-, six-, or 12-month durations will apply to your Uber Eats membership going forward.
This also means that you can also apply for a new Aeroplan credit card if you don’t have one right now, and then use it to activate its corresponding Uber Pass offer.
Since the free Uber Pass membership is limited to one per Uber account (as we’ll discuss below), there’s no advantage to waiting to activate the offer, unless you plan on using Uber Pass benefits much more frequently in the distant future.
For most eligible Aeroplan members, it makes sense to go ahead and activate the membership as soon as possible: today if you’re a TD or CIBC cardholder, or on November 1 if you’re an American Express cardholder.
One-Time Offer Per Uber Account
Each Uber account is limited to activating one free Uber Pass membership, even if you hold multiple Aeroplan co-branded credit cards.
If you have multiple cards across different tiers, it would therefore make sense to activate the offer using the highest-tier Aeroplan credit card in order to earn the free Uber Pass membership for the longest duration (e.g., if you have core and premium Aeroplan credit cards, be sure to use the premium card to activate the 12-month offer).
Once you’ve activated your own membership, you have a few options for what to do with your remaining Aeroplan credit cards.
You could link them to a friend or family member’s Uber account and offer them a free Uber Pass membership – keeping in mind that you can still order food and rides for yourself using another individual’s Uber account.
For example, if you typically order delivery as a household, then you could do the following:
- Use a premium Aeroplan credit card to activate one 12-month free Uber Pass membership on your own Uber account as of today
- Then, use another premium Aeroplan credit card to activate a second 12-month free Uber Pass membership on your spouse’s Uber account in early September 2022
This would give you cheaper eats with $0 delivery fees as a household all the way through to September 2023.
Coming Soon: Full Aeroplan + Uber Partnership
A “full linked loyalty partnership” between Aeroplan and Uber Canada will launch later in 2021.
I’d expect that you’ll no longer need to click through the Aeroplan eStore before ordering Uber Eats. Instead, similar to the Starbucks partnership, Aeroplan members would be able to link their Uber accounts directly and automatically earn points on all their rides and eats.
Aeroplan has chosen to keep us in suspense on the full details around earning rates and bonus offers until closer to the next phase’s launch – but it won’t be long from now, since we know the next phase will arrive before the end of the year.
Until then, a free Uber Pass membership with $0 delivery fees and 5% discounts will combine with your 2x points when ordering Uber Eats via the eStore to keep you well-fed on Aeroplan points in the meantime.
Conclusion
Aeroplan and Uber Canada have launched the second phase of their multi-year partnership. As of today, holders of all 11 Canadian-issued Aeroplan credit cards will get access to a free Uber Pass membership of three, six, or 12 months in duration, depending on their card tier.
TD and CIBC cardholders can go ahead and activate their free Uber Pass now, while American Express cardholders will be able to do so as of November 1, 2021.
I’m very much looking forward to saying goodbye to Uber Eats delivery fees for the next few years while unlocking extra value from my Aeroplan credit cards, and I can’t wait to see what the next phase of Aeroplan and Uber’s partnership has in store for us.
18x points: Amex AR summer promo of 10x aeroplan points dining has been doubling the promo with uber eats. ie buy $10 uber eats, base 2x points =20 , then 8x added for summer promo = 80 (total 100ap). But for last week a second promo of 80 points has been added (total 180ap for $10 spend). Glitch or intended promo, not sure – but couldn’t find described.
Its been 1 month and my Uber Pass was removed from my account for no reason. I should have 12-months with my TD Aeroplan VIP card. Has anyone had this happen to them? I just sent a message to Uber Support but curious if anyone else had this occur.
I added my personal TD AP VIP card as a payment method to my UBER account and instantly got a notification allowing me to active the promotion. When I take UBERs it’s usually related to work though, and for bookeeping purposes I need to pay with one of my business cards (such as TD AP Business Card, Amex Plat Business etc). Will doing so cancel the free 12 month pass??
Anyone actually receive this offer yet? My amex ap reserve was already linked but not seeing offer after 48 hrs of this news.
I imagine the Uber Canada and Aeroplan account linking will be the same as it is with Uber Mexico and Aeromexico. Once linked the points are just posted automatically every time you ride or order food with Uber.
Can we activate the offer using the TD visa infinite privilege but pay on uber eats using the amex aeroplan reserve (to get the 10x points offer) or do we have to use the same cart to register for this offer and pay on uber eats? Thank you!
According to the terms and conditions, you need to use the card that you had used to enroll in Uber Pass when you order delivery or call a ride in order to enjoy the Uber Pass benefits. So you could still pay with the Aeroplan Reserve but you may not get the Uber Pass benefits in doing so.
Is there any way of switching over once Amex is able to be used in November? I activated my Ubereats with TD today but regret it and would prefer to use my Amex instead for my purchases.
Doesn’t seem like it. The only way would be if you made another Uber account (you’d probably need a different phone number).
Yea… this is a real problem. My CIBC VIP was stolen. They sent me a new card but I can no longer get the benefits because the old card can not be used. Uber says there is nothing they can do. So don’t lose your credit card!
How would you be able to take advantage of using another AP card for SEP 2022 when you have to attach your card by SEP 8 of this year?
