WestJet Expands Partnership with Condor Airlines

This week, WestJet announced an expansion to its existing partnership with Frankfurt-based Condor Airlines. Through the expanded partnership, WestJet and Condor Airlines have entered into a codeshare agreement, which allows the airlines to sell seats on each other’s flights.

As an added bonus, the new codeshare agreement also represents a new way to redeem WestJet dollars for flights with Condor Airlines.

WestJet Expands Partnership with Condor Airlines

WestJet and Condor Airlines have expanded on their pre-existing interline agreement by entering into a codeshare agreement, allowing the airlines to sell itineraries on each other’s flights for the first time in their 10-year partnership.

As of June 25, 2024, Condor Airlines flights from five Canadian cities (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Halifax) to Frankfurt are sold on the WestJet website with a WestJet flight number.

WestJet passengers connecting in any of the five cities will also have their baggage through-checked, and the flights will be on a single itinerary.

Likewise, Condor Airlines passengers arriving in Canada can connect to WestJet’s domestic network with the same benefits.

Passengers who book Condor Airlines flights can also earn WestJet dollars on their booking, as long as WestJet is the marketing carrier.

With the expanded partnership, Condor Airlines becomes the newest airline WestJet has a codeshare agreement with, as it maintains agreements with a number of other airlines.

As of June 25, 2024, Condor Airlines flights are available for booking on the WestJet website and through the WestJet App.

A New Way to Book Condor Airlines with WestJet Dollars

The new codeshare agreement represents a new way to redeem WestJet dollars, since all airlines that WestJet has a codeshare agreement with are eligible for the redemption of WestJet dollars.

Recall that Condor Airlines operates non-stop flights between Frankfurt (FRA) and five Canadian airports:

Previously, Condor Airlines also offered a unique non-stop flight to Whitehorse (YXY); however, that route has been cancelled until at least 2026. The main runway at Whitehorse’s airport is being repaved, and the planes Condor Airlines flies on long-haul routes are too large for the alternate runway.

If you have some WestJet dollars to redeem and are planning a trip to Europe, be sure to consider flights with Condor Airlines as one of your options.

That’s because round-trip flights in Condor Airlines business class can typically be booked for around $3,000 (all figures in CAD), with one-way itineraries sometimes pricing out at slightly over half of the cost of a round-trip booking.

Alternatively, you can book Condor Airlines flights in economy and redeem WestJet dollars to offset the cost, too.

Otherwise, you can book Condor Airlines business class for 55,000 Alaska miles; however, they’re more difficult to come by in Canada, requiring you to buy them outright (ideally during a sale), convert Marriott Bonvoy points, or venture into US credit cards

While Toronto and Vancouver have plenty of options for non-stop flights to Europe, Edmonton, Calgary, and Halifax have comparatively few options, and it’s nice to see the possibility of redeeming WestJet dollars on these routes through the codeshare agreement.

As an added bonus, Condor Airlines operates the Airbus A330-900neo on these routes. Aside from planes with a unique livery, the business class cabin offers lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration.

Conclusion

WestJet and Condor Airlines have expanded on their existing partnership by entering into a codeshare agreement.

As of June 25, 2024, the agreement is in effect, and passengers can book Condor Airlines flights on the WestJet website or app, using cash or redeeming WestJet dollars to pay.

If you have a trip planned to or from Europe, be sure to take a look at Condor Airlines as one of your options.
