Following the conclusion of our trek in Nepal, we headed to India for a quick two-night stop in Mumbai before heading onwards to Mauritius.
We opted to stay at the JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu, nestled along the renowned Juhu Chowpatty Beach. This property flaunts beautiful views of the Arabian Sea, and since opening in 2002, it has earned its reputation as a popular luxury destination within Mumbai.
Our intention for this stay was to simply unwind on the beach following our strenuous trek, reserving a visit to Mumbai proper for a future occasion.

JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu – Booking
For our booking, we checked the average cash and redemption rates in advance, and ultimately decided to redeem 39,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, using topped-up Free Night Awards.
Regular rates at JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu hover around $245 (USD) per night. However, they can fall to approximately $200 (USD) during times of lower demand, or escalate to upwards of $300 (USD) in busy periods.

JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu – Location
The JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu, nestled in the upscale Juhu neighbourhood of Mumbai, is a magnet for Bollywood stars and the city’s elite.
The property is located directly on Juhu Chowpatty Beach – a lengthy stretch of sand and waves with vibrant street food stalls aplenty.
While the hotel enjoys proximity to the beach, it’s worth noting that some of the more popular tourist attractions in the city require a bit of travel.
The historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is about a 40-minute drive away. Similarly, reaching the iconic Gateway of India demands roughly an hour’s journey by car.
Additional tourist hotspots, like the ancient Elephanta Caves and the Haji Ali Dargah, are approximately an hour and 30 minutes away, respectively, when travelling by vehicle.
The hotel is relatively close to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM), typically a 20-minute commute. However, our arrival experience was marred by crippling traffic, stretching the journey to over an hour.
Thankfully, our return trip was smoother, aligning more with the usual travel time.
JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu – Check-in
After our flights from Nepal, which included an Air India economy leg to New Delhi and a subsequent journey to Mumbai in Vistara’s regional business class, we finally arrived at the JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu.
The hotel welcomed us with its stately beige façade that echoes traditional sandstone buildings, complemented by manicured greenery from its upper levels.
We approached along a cobbled driveway, and passed beneath a distinct porte-cochère. The entrance boasts bold pillars that resembled those of historic structures. There, the hotel’s logo stands prominently, affirming its identity.
Inside the lobby lounge, a regal ambiance awaited us with a high ceiling, wooden beams, and a checkerboard marble floor.
The area, which is bathed in neutral tones, was spacious, and is centred around a table decorated with a display of fresh flowers.
The space included several seating areas with armchairs upholstered in deep burgundy and soft taupe.
Tucked into the wall are the check-in desks, adding warmth and a contrasting touch to the dominant colour scheme. Our attention then shifted to the grand staircases that led down to the restaurant.
Check-in proved to be straightforward. Despite our pre-arrival and in-person attempts to “suite-talk” our way into an upgrade, we were instead bestowed a standard upgrade to a slightly nicer room.
After a quick overview of the hotel’s facilities and my benefits as a Marriott Platinum member, we then made our way to Room 550 on the 5th floor.
JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu – King Partial Sea View Room
Upon entering our King Partial Sea View Room, we found a short foyer, with decorative art mounted above a small wooden console.
Beyond this, a closet presents itself before the bedroom area, which is equipped with bathrobes, a safe, and multiple storage shelves.
Further within, the interior opens up to a richly grained wooden accent wall at the bed’s rear, and muted beige tones throughout. Despite its pleasant appeal, the room’s overall aesthetics might not leave a lasting impression.
On the left, a large window adorned with sleek wooden panels offers an ensuite glimpse. On the right, a plush beige sofa sits near a mirrored wall.
Directly facing the king bed is a wall-mounted flat-screen TV next to a tall cabinet. A built-in wooden ledge offers additional space for personal items.
The adjacent cabinet houses a minibar, featuring an electric kettle and assorted snacks, with a mini-fridge incorporated below.
The work area boasts a sizeable, glossy black table, accompanied by an ergonomic chair with a mesh back.
Waiting there was a welcome treat in the form of a strawberry tart, as well as a personal note, extending a warm greeting from the hotel staff.
Transitioning to the bathroom, opulence defines the space with its marble walls and flooring. A single vanity sports a polished dark stone countertop, supported by a wooden base.
To the left, a glass-encased shower stands ready, while to the right, a luxurious free-standing bathtub is positioned next to a window partition, offering bedroom views.
While comfortable, the room didn’t strike me as extraordinary. The well-conceived bathroom design provides an ideal spot for post-travel relaxation, while the design of the rest of the King Partial Sea View Room is less than memorable.
It’s worth noting that the strawberry tart welcome gift was absolutely delicious.
In sum, this room certainly met my expectations and made for an entirely comfortable stay, but it doesn’t surpass them. It’s also worth noting that the view from our room was indeed very partial, and we enjoyed the view from the lounge much more.
JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu – Breakfast
Breakfast is served daily from 7am to 12pm at the Lotus Café, situated on the hotel’s ground floor. As Platinum Elite members, we received complimentary breakfast, which I’m pleased to report was nothing short of epic.
The Lotus Café delighted us with its grand open-air design. Tall, robust columns anchor the space, lending structure to the expansive atrium feel.
Our time here was further enriched by a talented sitar player, who performed live on both days of our stay.
The breakfast spread presented a massive selection, with a notable abundance of Indian dishes. As a fervent fan of Indian food, I ensured I brought a voracious appetite with me each morning.
The variety was impressive, encompassing Indian and Western hot dishes, as well as a good selection of cold items.
Hot Indian specialties included moong dal halwa, lamb kheema, aloo, tamatar ki sabzi, upma, misal, and steamed idli. Simultaneously, Western staples like sausage, bacon, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, and grilled vegetables were readily available.
Moreover, the diverse selection of baked and cold items included everything from parathas and hummus to an assortment of cheeses, meats, and salads, not to mention pastries such as croissants, muffins, and donuts.
We found the service at the Lotus Café to be exceptional, marked by frequent check-ins from the attentive staff.
Overall, our breakfast experience was delightful, and we highly recommend taking advantage of it during your stay.
JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu – Executive Lounge
Exclusive access to the Executive Lounge is granted to those with Platinum status or higher and individuals staying on Club-level floors.
Located on the hotel’s fourth floor, the lounge exudes upscale vibes with its vibrant shades of pink and gold.
At one end of the lounge, chevron-patterned couches add a whimsical touch. In close proximity, tufted ottomans and chairs contribute to the lounge’s opulence.
Moving to the opposite end of the lounge, one finds the dining area furnished with numerous tables, and nice pops of colour from bright pink chairs.
The seating options are comfortable, offering an excellent spot for kicking back and relaxing. Furthermore, this area has expansive windows, delivering ample natural light and a delightful view.
We visited the lounge for afternoon tea, and I also worked from there for a bit one day
Throughout the day, the lounge offers a good selection of sweets and pastries, complemented by a refrigerator stocked with soft drinks and water. A self-service coffee machine is available as well.
We popped by later for the evening hors d’oeuvres, which were more substantial and varied, and essentially functioned as our dinner.
I thoroughly enjoyed the space, even though it was quite busy for a while. The area is a good addition to the hotel, adding to its overall appeal for those with access.
JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu – Pools & Beach
One of the main attractions of the hotel is its vast pool area, a site where we spent several afternoons. I even managed to work beside the pool for a bit under the smouldering heat, until both I and my laptop needed a reprieve.
This space hosts three outdoor pools, surrounded by towering palms, ornamental shrubs, and natural stone flooring for added aesthetics.
You’ll find cabanas with terracotta roofs, and deep blue lounge chairs accompanied by yellow umbrellas, all arranged along the pool’s edge. Additionally, private pockets of seating with cozy benches and unique hanging chairs are available for a more intimate experience.
Attentive staff members made our time highly pleasant by taking rounds to accept drink orders, a thoughtful touch we appreciated.
Overall, the pool serves as an ideal spot to cool off and find refuge amid the scorching weather.
Just beside the pool area is a private entrance to Juhu Chowpatty Beach.
We enjoyed some walks along the beach to the nearby street food stall, which was a delicious adventure.
JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu – Other Facilities
Beyond the pool, the hotel presents additional facilities for dining, a fitness centre, and a spa.
Adjacent to the pool area resides the hotel’s Quan Spa, open from 8am to 8:30pm daily. It looked like a nice spot for guests to pamper themselves with invigorating spa sessions following a swim.
Dashanzi, one of the hotel’s restaurants, offers contemporary Asian cuisine in a luxurious setting. This restaurant is renowned for its prime location and breathtaking water views.
Notably, it is a popular destination for celebrities.
Saffron is a North Indian restaurant, drawing its name from the globe’s most valuable spice. The restaurant crafts traditional and innovative Indian dishes in a cozy yet modern atmosphere.
Additionally, the hotel has the JW Fitness Club, accessible 24 hours per day.
The fitness centre is inviting with bright, light wooden floors and ample natural lighting.
It’s well-equipped with a range of weightlifting gear, including dumbbells and resistance machines, complemented by cardio equipment such as treadmills and ellipticals.
Conclusion
Overall, we found the JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu to be a solid choice for a relaxing stay. It’s situated right on Juhu Chowpatty Beach, which is a great spot to stroll and catch some street food, and we also made full use of the three pools on the property.
While not spectacular or featuring memorable interiors by any means, the King Partial Sea View Room was a comfortable spot for the duration of our stay. The bathroom particularly stood out as well-designed and luxurious, which made for a pleasant stay.
Breakfast at the Lotus Café was an absolute delight, and was the highlight of our visit. The open-air space and the diverse, impressive spread of Indian dishes greatly enhanced our morning, and we would recommend it to anyone staying at the hotel.
In terms of value for points, we considered the hotel to be quite good, and the property serves as a great property overall in Mumbai if you’re looking for a nice place to relax.
