Aeroplan has announced yet another exciting promotion this week: the ability to spend your way to a higher level of Aeroplan Elite Status.
Until October 15 or November 30, depending on when you had opened the card, simply spend $10,000 on a premium Aeroplan credit card and you’ll level-up your Aeroplan status.
If you have no status, you can earn entry-level Aeroplan 25K status. And if you have existing status, you can earn a one-tier upgrade to the next status level up!
And with some careful advance planning, you could even earn all the way up to Aeroplan 35K starting from no status at all, if you combine the spend-$10,000 promotion with the current record-high signup offers on the American Express Aeroplan cards.

Hi Ricky,
Do I need to opt into this promotion? I never got an email and I just called the Aeroplan call center and they didn’t know anything about it.
Hi Ricky,
I signed up for the Amex Aeroplan Reserve before August 3rd. I have met the minimum spend of $10,000 for the 25K status bump but haven’t seen that apply on the status yet. I am also targeting to get the Everyday Status Qualification spend of $100,000 Aeroplan miles before December 2021. Do you know if I am able to get both 25K and 35K status in January and which one will be applied first $10,000 from Amex or $100,000 Everyday Status Qualification? OR I will only get one 25K status. Thank you.
If you complete EDQ by November 30, you’ll be bumped up to 25K status and then 35K status in January (because the $10K status bump is based on your status as of November 30). If you don’t get EDQ by November 30, you’ll only get 25K status from the whole thing.
Does anybody actually get the status level up yet? I spent the 10k more than a month ago and haven’t gotten the level up.
It’s supposed to kick in as of January 31, 2022.
Hi Ricky
I hold both the Amex Aeroplan Reserve and the TD Aeroplan Infinite Privilege cards AND will meet the min. spend of $10,000 on BOTH cards.. would I jump up two tiers?
Nope, one tier only.
Hi Ricky
I just got the Amex Reserve Card because I have a large purchase to make next month. Today I just found out that the company I’ll be making the purchase from doesn’t accept Amex…is there any ways you know how I could make this purchase with my card (indirectly) and still get the spend upgrade?
You could buy certain prepaid Mastercards or Visas from the grocery store and use those to pay your vendor, although there’d be activation fees on the gift cards. You’d need to decide whether those extra activation fees are worth the status bump.
Thanks so much.
Hi Ricky. I’m currently a 25K. So how do I get to 50K. I will have over 10 g spend coming before Nov so that bumps me to 35K. How do I get to 50K? Do I still have to get the flight segments in before then? Also I do have Silver with United thru Marriott Titanium. Is there another way to work this thru status matches? Sorry it seems complicated to me excuse my questions? Thx
I’m planning to get the TD Aeroplan Infinite Privilege Visa, and the TD Aeroplan Infinite Business Visas to to replace my existing RBC Avion Visa cards. I will have a lot of spend on those two cards. Do I need to get the Amex equivalents as well to get the highest possible status bumps with AC, or can my spending alone on the TD Visas get me there?
And thanks for your fabulous site and help negotiating the crazy news Aeroplan world! Your site and blog are terrific.
For someone who earns 25k status through this promo and holds the Aeroplan reserve, will all the SQMs you have from 2021 then rollover to 2022 since they are not needed to get you to 25k in 2021?
They would’ve rolled over anyway since they would’ve counted as extra SQM over and above the “no status” that you had in 2021.
Hmm, from what I had read I understood that the rollover would only apply if you had earned 25k status- that’s good to hear if basically everything from 2021 rolls over no matter what.
Ricky, I am in a dilemma! Because of this announcement – I need to spend $10K on Amex AP Res. But I was really wanting to pick up the Amex Platinum before Aug 3rd which requires 6K of spending… Perhaps more if want to get the entire 150K MR points. What do you recommend? Overall I need at least 16K of spending between July,2021 and January,2022 across these two cards.
Prepay some bills and hustle some gift cards to reach both spends. 😉 If that’s not possible, I’d prioritize the Platinum since it’s a lower amount spread out over a longer time period, and the 150,000 points will give you more tangible value than 25K status (which is only useful if you have the cash/points to travel).
Hi Ricky,
I have 25K status now, is there a way to earn 35K other than purchasing airfare before I complete my $10,000 spent.
Find an Aeroplan 75K member and “convince” them to gift you 35K status.
Ricky, for Super Elites.. does the $3,000 SQD apply to threshold gifts abs earning our next Priority reward?
Do these points only help status or do we actually get them in our account to redeem on flights?
Finally, do these SQM count towards Million Miler?
Cheers
Would “moving” from Quebec to another province make me qualify for the status bump if I have the TD Visa Infinite Privilege?
“This offer does not apply to Quebec Residents.”
Bummer.
If you already have 25K status, and had an eligible pre 2021 card, then completed a $10,000 spend, you would be at 35K. If you applied and received an eligible card after the July 2021 start date, then completed and additional $10,000 spend on that card, would you be eligible to be bumped up to 50K status ?
Nope, it’s a one-time status bump.
With 50k status extended for 2021 do I need to earn an additional 25k status points by Nov 30 to get to 75k status? If so then would the 10k spend on my privilege card get me to super elite?
My dashboard shows that I have 50k status and 10k SQM accumulated for 2021 so far but shows I only have the 10k towards 75k status. By the way the 10K status was earned by Privilege card spending not flights. I’m just wrapping up my first trip south of the border for another 4K or so SQM’s so getting 25K points by Nov 30 should by achievable.
You’ll need to earn both the SQM and SQD thresholds for 75K by November 30, so that you qualify for 75K, and then your $10k spending would bump you up to Super Elite. Since 75K status requires 75,000 SQM or 75 SQS, it sounds like you still have a fair way to go.
Hi Ricky
If you are already 25K will earning 100000 points bump you up to 35K and then spend $10000 to reach Gold.
Nope – Everyday Status Qualification only works for earning Aeroplan 25K status, not levelling up to higher status levels.
