Video: The Complete Guide to Aeroplan Flight Rewards

Now that the new Aeroplan has launched for about one month already, it’s time to fire up the search engine and walk you through everything you need to know about redeeming Aeroplan points for flight rewards under the new program.

There are a LOT of new topics to understand – and so in this tutorial-style video, we’ll cover the online search engine, dynamic pricing on Air Canada flights, preferred pricing, the new fare categories, the “Latitude Attitude”, Priority Rewards, the stopover for 5,000 points, the best new Aeroplan sweet spots, and so much more.

Feel free to follow along with the Aeroplan search engine on your own – and if you have any questions about the new Aeroplan flight rewards, let me know in the comments below.

I believe a downside of paying for 60% of the award ticket in dollars is that it would count as an award and not a purchase. In other words, you would lose the points (and bonus points) associated with a purchase, and further, if you are chasing status, the dollars you spend here would not advance your status.

The Aeroplan taxes and fees have been coding as Air Canada purchases, so I’d imagine it’s the same for the cash portion of Cash + Points. You’d still earn the AC multiplier on your credit card, but you’re right that it won’t count as status-qualifying.

Also note that the maximum cash component is 40%, with 60% being paid with points.

Can you access the Signature Suite at YVR or YYZ with a flexible reward ticket? I’m looking at doing a trip next year and wasn’t sure if paying the extra 10-12k points for the flex reward ticket would personally be worth it to me if it doesn’t come with Signature Suite access.

This is mentioned in the video – the answer is yes.

Ricky, can I use my SE Priority Rewards voucher for a business class multi city around the world under the new program and get 50% off including all the 5,000pt stop overs?

Yes — that’s one of the best uses of your Super Elite Priority Rewards!

riddle me this, ricky; trying to book an aeroplan ticket ARN-YYJ. one choice includes a route via FRA-YYC-YVR. a ticket only to YYC gets the ARN-FRA leg in J. If you continue on to YVR or YYJ, the first leg gets booked in Y. No way to get that in J. Married segments? I called and had a lousy and lazy agent to i just HUACA. second time round i got a very nice and helpful agent although she was not able to book the fist leg in J on a ticket beyond YYC. i ended up buying two separate tickets which cost 15k points more.
any ideas why this is happening? since a free cancellation or change is possible, i’ll rebook if i can but this is silly. there’s loads of award availability on the ARN-FRA leg in J. I tried booking for 9 pax and it works.

Sounds like a matter of married segments here. Lufthansa wants to offer J to passengers headed to Calgary but not to passengers travelling beyond. With the new Aeroplan it seems like it’s always about what’s available when you consider the overall origin to destination of the one-way bound, rather than purely segment-by-segment like it was before.
